All I have is today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. God fills us up with the strength we need for TODAY. If I spend the strength I get worrying (which can also be called thinking, planning, wanting..) about tomorrow, today will just zip right by me.
God has called me to today, this is where I’m at. This is my life. At the simplest of levels, where he has placed me today is my calling. I may not know more details, I may not be able to see what’s coming, but I can see today and I can be faithful with it. I can make the most of it.
He tells us to be faithful in the little, and then he will give us more.
Then there is this getting strengthened by the Lord thing. I had it in my head that is was up to me to make it happen, but Jesus’ soft voice broke into that and told me it’s him that does it. We get strengthened by simply spending time with him. When we are in his presence, we receive from him.
We as humans like to have a formula. We like to understand and have it figured out. But so many things of God are mysteries – that’s why HE is God and we are not. “‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”
I had the mindset that if I didn’t understand how it happens (or when, or how) that it doesn’t happen. You just have to accept that God meets you when you come to him. “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you”
So if you feel hopeless or tired or are unsatisfied with your life, go spend time with Jesus. Then try only to think about today. Tell yourself, “This is my life” then thank God for what you have, because that opens you up to receive his joy – which it turns out is our strength.
